Stanley Newman

Stanley Newman, born July 19, 1952, is an American puzzle creator, editor and publisher who has edited the Newsday Sunday crossword since 1988 and its daily crossword since 1992. His crossword career launched after early competitive success: he won the inaugural U.S. Open Crossword Championship and the American Crossword Puzzle Tournament in the same year, 1982, after which he founded the American Crossword Federation, started a crossword newsletter in 1983 and began constructing his own puzzles. He is also a trivia enthusiast who co-authored the trivia encyclopedia 15,003 Answers, holds a mathematics degree from Brooklyn College where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa, and earned a master's degree in statistics from Rutgers University.
