Vyacheslav Fetisov is a Russian ice hockey defenceman born April 20, 1958, in Moscow, who played professionally for 24 years between 1974 and 1998. He spent thirteen seasons with CSKA Moscow before joining the NHL at age 31, winning back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings in 1997 and 1998, and internationally won two Olympic gold medals, in 1984 and 1988, an Olympic silver in 1980, and seven World Championship golds, membership that places him in hockey's Triple Gold Club. He was instrumental in breaking the barrier that had prevented Soviet players from leaving to join the NHL, and he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2001.
