Agnes Keleti

Agnes Keleti was a Hungarian-Israeli artistic gymnast who lived from 1921 to 2025 and won ten Olympic medals for Hungary across the 1952 Helsinki and 1956 Melbourne Games, five of them gold: floor exercise in 1952, and uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and team portable apparatus in 1956, making her the most successful athlete at the 1956 Melbourne Games. She survived the Holocaust in Budapest using a false Christian identity document and work as a maid, while her father and other relatives were murdered at Auschwitz; her mother and sister survived under Swiss diplomatic protection. After the 1956 Soviet invasion of Hungary she settled in Israel in 1957, where she coached gymnastics for decades, received the Israel Prize for sport in 2017, and became the longest-lived Olympic champion on record before her death in Budapest in 2025.
