Norair Nurikyan was a Bulgarian weightlifter of Armenian descent who lived from 1948 to 2025 and became a two-time Olympic champion, winning gold in the 60 kilogram category at the 1972 Munich Games and the 56 kilogram category at the 1976 Montreal Games, setting a division total record of 402.5 kilograms in 1972. He was the first Bulgarian weightlifter to win an Olympic medal or an Olympic title, also won World Championship gold in 1972 and 1976 along with multiple European and Balkan titles, trained under coach Ivan Abadjiev, and was inducted into the International Weightlifting Federation Hall of Fame in 1994.
