Gaetano Scirea

Football Codes

Gaetano Scirea, born on 25 May 1953 and died on 3 September 1989, was an Italian professional footballer regarded as one of the greatest defenders in football history. He spent most of his career with Juventus, apart from two seasons with Atalanta. He is one of only six players in European football history to have won every international trophy for clubs recognised by UEFA and FIFA, and one of nine to win all three major UEFA club competitions. For Italy he was an undisputed member of the defence for more than a decade, keeping Franco Baresi out of the national team for four years until he retired from international play in 1986. He became a world champion with the 1982 World Cup winning team, and also played at the 1978 World Cup and UEFA Euro 1980, finishing fourth in both.
