Mathieu van der Poel is a Dutch professional cyclist, born in Belgium in 1995, who competes across cyclo-cross, mountain biking, gravel and road racing. He has won the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championship elite men's title eight times, took the UCI Road World Championship in 2023 and the inaugural UCI Gravel World Championship in 2024, making him the only men's world champion in three different cycling disciplines. He has also won the Tour of Flanders three times, Paris-Roubaix three times and Milan-San Remo twice. He comes from a cycling family: his maternal grandfather was the French Tour de France runner-up Raymond Poulidor, and his father Adri van der Poel was a former cyclo-cross world champion and Tour de France stage winner.
