Qui Nguyen was born in Vietnam in 1977 and emigrated to the United States in 2001, working first in a California nail salon before relocating to Las Vegas in 2007 to try his hand at poker. He built his game gradually in small stakes limit games before moving into no limit hold em tournaments. In 2016 he won the World Series of Poker Main Event through a 1,100 dollar satellite entry, defeating Gordon Vayo heads up to take the championship and its 8,005,310 dollar first prize. His win made him one of several Vietnamese American players to reach poker most prestigious title in the 2010s.
