Mansour Matloubi is an Iranian born professional poker player who settled in London and became one of the first internationally recognized champions of the modern tournament game. He rose through the European high stakes scene in the late 1980s before winning the 1990 World Series of Poker Main Event, taking the title and an 835,000 dollar first prize and becoming the first non American ever to win it. The victory opened the Main Event to a wider world of players beyond the traditional Las Vegas circuit. Across his career Matloubi accumulated more than two million dollars in tournament winnings and remained a respected figure among the early generation of international competitors.
