Sir Richard Hadlee is a New Zealand former cricketer born July 3, 1951, in Christchurch, widely regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in the sport's history and among its finest fast bowlers. Across an 86-Test career from 1973 to 1990 he took 431 wickets at an average of 22.29 and scored 3,124 runs including two centuries, becoming the first bowler in history to pass 400 Test wickets and holding the world record for most Test wickets from November 1988 until February 1994. He won the New Zealand cricket players' Player of the Year award three times, in 1981, 1984 and 1987, was appointed MBE in 1980 and knighted in 1990 for services to cricket, was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009, and was ranked the second-greatest Test bowler of all time by Wisden in December 2002.
