Yana Klochkova

Yana Oleksandrivna Klochkova is a Ukrainian competitive swimmer, born August 7, 1982, in Simferopol, Crimea, and one of Ukraine's most decorated Olympic athletes, with five Olympic medals, four of them gold. She won the 200 meter and 400 meter individual medley at both the 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympics, and won a silver medal in the 800 meter freestyle at Sydney 2000. She held the world record in the women's 400 meter individual medley from 2000 to 2007, was named World Female Swimmer of the Year by Swimming World magazine in 2004, and received the Hero of Ukraine designation from President Leonid Kuchma the same year. She retired from competitive swimming in 2009 at age 26 and went on to work in sports administration and civic engagement in Ukraine.
