Sun Yang is a Chinese competitive swimmer, born December 1, 1991, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, who specializes in freestyle events from 200 to 1500 meters. He became the first Chinese male athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in swimming, in 2012, and went on to win three Olympic gold medals and eleven World Championship gold medals, becoming the first male swimmer in history to earn Olympic and World Championship gold medals at every freestyle distance from 200 to 1500 meters.
