Ulrike Tauber

Ulrike Tauber is a retired East German swimmer, born June 16, 1958, in Karl-Marx-Stadt, now Chemnitz, who specialized in medley and butterfly events, particularly the 200 meter and 400 meter individual medley. She won the gold medal in the women's 400 meter individual medley at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and took silver in the 200 meter butterfly at the same Games. She held numerous world records in the 200 meter and 400 meter individual medley during the 1970s, won world championship medals and European titles, was named Swimming World's Swimmer of the Year in 1974 and 1977, and was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1988. It was later revealed that she had used doping during competition, and Swimming World magazine stripped her of her Swimmer of the Year titles in 2013.
