Krisztina Egerszegi

Krisztina Egerszegi is a retired Hungarian swimmer, born August 16, 1974, in Budapest, who competed in backstroke, individual medley and butterfly events across three Olympic Games in 1988, 1992 and 1996. She won five individual Olympic gold medals, becoming the first female swimmer to do so, and is one of only four swimmers to win the same event at three consecutive Olympics, taking the 200 meter backstroke in 1988, 1992 and 1996, alongside Dawn Fraser, Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky. She held the world record in the 200 meter backstroke for nearly 17 years, from 1991 to 2008, won nine European gold medals and two World Championship golds, retired at age 22, and was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2001.
