Kosuke Hagino

Kosuke Hagino is a retired Japanese competitive swimmer, born August 15, 1994, in Oyama, Tochigi, who specialized in individual medley and the 200 meter freestyle. A four time Olympic medalist, his most notable success came at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he won gold in the 400 meter individual medley, silver in the 200 meter individual medley and bronze in the 4x200 meter freestyle relay, becoming the first Asian man to medal in the 200 meter individual medley at the Olympics. He held multiple Asian records in medley distances, was named World Swimmer of the Year in 2014, becoming one of only two Asian swimmers to receive that honor, attended Toyo University, and retired in 2021 after competing at the Tokyo Olympics.
