Pentago

Pentago is a two-player abstract strategy game designed by Swedish inventor Tomas Floden and introduced in 2005, played on a six-by-six board divided into four separate three-by-three quadrant boards that can each be rotated. On a turn a player places one of their marbles onto any empty space and then rotates one of the four quadrant boards, clockwise or counterclockwise, by ninety degrees, changing the overall layout of the full board after every single move. A player wins by being the first to arrange five of their own marbles in an unbroken row, either straight or diagonal, anywhere across the combined six-by-six grid, with the twist that a winning line can be created or destroyed by the mandatory quadrant rotation that ends every turn. A larger four-player variant called Pentago XL uses a nine-by-nine grid of nine rotating three-by-three quadrants and four marble colors instead of two.
