Entropy is a two-player abstract strategy board game designed by Eric Solomon and first published in 1977. One player takes the role of Order, trying to build vertical and horizontal lines of matching pieces, while the opponent plays Chaos, working to break up any pattern before it forms. The original edition used a five by five board; a more demanding seven by seven version followed in 2000 to give the position room to develop. Games and Puzzles Magazine rated it a perfect six out of six in 1981, and chess writer David Pritchard called it a modern classic. The game is sold commercially today under the names Hyle for the smaller board and Hyle7 for the larger one.
