LYNGK

Alignment and Abstract Strategy Games

LYNGK is an abstract strategy board game released in 2017 by the Belgian designer Kris Burm, and it is the ninth and final title in his GIPF Project, a linked series of hexagonal-board abstract strategy games that began in 1996 with the release of GIPF itself. Like its companions in the series, LYNGK is played on a board built from hexagonal spaces, and its pieces can interact with specially reserved potential pieces that let players connect a match of LYNGK to the outcome of the other games in the series, so that a piece won in one game can be carried into another. Three earlier titles in the GIPF Project, YINSH, DVONN and ZERTZ, each won the Mensa Select award for outstanding games, a mark of the series' broader reputation for elegant abstract strategy design. LYNGK itself centers on maneuvering stacked and colored pieces to form matching groups on the board, in keeping with the capture and alignment mechanics that define the rest of the GIPF Project series.
