Abalone is a two-player abstract strategy board game designed by French inventors Michel Lalet and Laurent Levi in 1987 and first published in 1990. Play takes place on a hexagonal board where each side controls fourteen marbles, one black and one white; players take turns pushing lines of their own marbles to shove opposing marbles toward the board's edge, and the first to force six of the opponent's marbles off the board wins. Since its 1990 release the game has sold more than 4.5 million units and has been sold in more than thirty countries, and variant rules exist that support three or more players using additional marble colors.
