Air sports flown in an aircraft with a fixed wing, either under power or as an unpowered glider. Aerobatics, in which a pilot flies a scored sequence of precise manoeuvres, and gliding, in which a pilot stays aloft by finding rising air for distance and duration, are the main forms recognised by the FAI. Sports flown with a foot-launched wing are kept in their own group. Every sport filed in this group belongs to the Air Sports category and has its own entry in the Sport and Games Atlas, from which a reader can follow links on to its leading athletes, its competitions and the governing bodies that set its rules.
