Sports flown rather than run, ridden or swum, in which the athlete uses an aircraft or wing to stay aloft and is judged on distance, duration, precision or skill. Paragliding, flown with a foot-launched fabric wing, is the type case, and the wider family of air sports is organised internationally by a single world air sports federation. Belongs here: gliding, paragliding, hang gliding, parachuting, ballooning and other sports whose arena is the air. Does not belong here: motor racing, and aerobatic or stunt displays that are performed on the ground.
